Job Description GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides leadership, manages a team of Public Relations professionals and has a direct hands-on role in executing the planning, development and completion of strategic Public Relations programs across EMC’s Strategic and Global Alliances; Global Solutions; Global Services; and Channel/Partner businesses and serves as the central point of corporate coordination with EMC’s International Public Relations functions. The Senior Manager of Public Relations helps define the department's role and influence within marketing and across the company, works with senior management to ensure that the overall Public Relations function is effectively meeting the corporation's strategic goals and effectively positions itself in the external market. Reports to Senior Director of Public Relations.
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and executes Public Relations initiatives that support EMC’s Strategic and Global Alliances; Global Solutions; Global Services; and Channel/Partner (reseller, distribution, service provider, system integrators, outsourcers etc) and partner-specific product announcements.
  • Serves as central point of corporate coordination with EMC’s International Public Relations functions.
  • Directs the operations and activities of PR as a centralized corporate function, providing strategic direction for defined focus areas. 
  • Participates in corporate communications strategy development. Advocates for programs and projects in the overall PR function. 
  • Manages team -- which may include direct reports, contract employees or other internal and external resources -- to deliver PR programs in support of the marketing and business objectives of specific organizational segments or strategic corporate or marketing initiatives. 
  • Interacts with senior company management, senior communications management, external resources such as agencies and consultants, alliance and partner companies, and representatives of the news media and other external influencers. Interaction includes assuming the roles of strategic counselor, adviser, influencer, project leader, or service provider, as appropriate. 
  • Acts as both manager and individual contributor with responsibility for orchestrating Public Relations plans across traditional and social media outlets and initiating and implementing competitive initiatives.
  • Represents EMC in a positive and effective manner, exhibiting behavior consistent with EMC’s values.

SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required.
  • 10+ years of professional experience and 5+ years diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization and people motivation skill (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct a workgroup.
  • Requires in-depth functional, company, overall IT market and general large-scale business knowledge. 
  • Have or quickly build a strong operational command of EMC’s business priorities and internal landscape.
  • Strong problem solving skills, mentoring/coaching and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with senior management.
  • Ability to influence others and drive change through effective communication and counsel.
  • Sense of urgency.
