Director of Corporate Communications and PR
Job Description
The Director of Corporate Communications and PR will work with an impassioned team of marketing individuals to build awareness and preference for UpToDate, the only clinical knowledge system associated with improved healthcare outcomes. Our mission is to ensure that every clinician around the world has access to this incredibly powerful, trusted resource of evidence-based recommendations.
The successful candidate will lead all strategic messaging activities with key target audiences, including clinicians, executives at healthcare institutions, and medical librarians around the world. S/he will create strategies and manage activities designed to create awareness and build preference for and loyalty to UpToDate as the clinical knowledge system of choice.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute overall corporate marketing messages and brand positioning that targets all stakeholders via multiple channels, including inbound marketing as well as PR, media relations and supporting programs
- Manage all global PR efforts, including managing regional PR resources, to ensure outreach is consistent and in line with overall marketing direction
- Develop optimized, value-added content for www.UpToDate.com
- Collaborate with market segment managers to support the creation and launch of strategic global programs that increase awareness and build brand preference for UpToDate
- Build and cultivate strong relationships with key influencers and opinion leaders, including thought leaders/academia, as well as senior international press
- Develop and manage process for measuring messaging and PR effectiveness
- Oversee marketing communications, creative services and event management teams
- Contribute to the business planning process; develop annual and LE forecasts and monitor expenses to ensure planned spending is on target with budget parameters
Desired Skills & Experience
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in Communications, marketing or related field or equivalent
- Graduate degree preferred
- Minimum of 10 years experience in PR and strategic communications.
- Demonstrated success building awareness and brand preference in B2B arena.
- Experience managing consultants and communications vendors, including advertising agencies and PR firms
- Previous experience in healthcare industry desired.
- Existing relationships with global media and relevant health publications desired.
- Must have demonstrated success in utilizing strategic communications to achieve the business objectives of highly-complex and matrix-oriented organizations.
- Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills
- An ability to synthesize vast amounts of information and ideas across a diverse landscape of issues
- Substantive understanding of marketing disciplines, including inbound marketing
- Proven expertise in devising and executing clear marketing strategy, initiating and championing cross-functional and cross-departmental projects, marshaling resources (internal and external), obtaining buy-in, and driving campaigns to successful completion
- Strong leadership, time management, resource management and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge and basic proficiency in current technology and business applications
