2010 Bell Ringer Awards Silent Auction Beneficiary Selected

The Publicity Club of New England is proud to announce that it has selected Judge Baker Children’s Center as the beneficiary of the 2010 Bell Ringer Awards ceremony silent auction. The Club sat down with Kristen Woulfe, communications manager for JBCC, to discuss the organization and how the monies from the auction will benefit it.

PC: Can you tell us a little background on the JBCC?
KW:  Since 1917, Judge Baker Children’s Center has been dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents whose mental health problems threaten to limit their potential.  The Baker was named in honor of the Boston Juvenile Court's first judge, Harvey Humphrey Baker, a visionary in child welfare.  Judge Baker was among the first to advocate a system based on understanding and treatment to help troubled youth, rather than one using punishment or incarceration.

PC: What type of programs/services do you offer?
KW:  We help children and families who are affected by ADHD, childhood bi-polar disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, as well as learning disabilities, or emotional health problems.  Some of our programs include an after-hours emergency response system for the Department of Children and Families (DCF), a summer day camp, and an internationally recognized training program for physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and other children’s mental health professionals.

PC: How will the support from the Pub Club’s silent auction benefit JBCC?
KW:  JBCC is honored to have been chosen as the recipient for the Pub Club’s silent auction fundraiser.  This support will assist us as we continue to find innovative treatments for children with mental health disabilities.  It will also allow us to continue providing free training services to parents and families of our children. As we continue to try and make a difference in the health of children, every donation, no matter its size makes a great impact.

PC:  How can others offer their support for the organization?
KW:  Donations may be made online through our website at anytime, www.jbcc.harvard.edu, or may be mailed to us at Judge Baker Children’s Center, Attn: Development Office, 53 Parker Hill Avenue, Boston, MA 02120.  Also, we have a few special events throughout the year, including a golf tournament and a cycling event where we are always looking for new participants to join our team!

PC:  Is there anything else you would like our members to know about JBCC?
KW:  One in five children has a diagnosable mental health disorder, and unfortunately many children grow up in traumatic home environments, or in the foster care system.  Without help and intervention from places like The Baker, these children are more likely to encounter advanced mental or behavioral problems throughout their lives.  Our programs help children and their families to overcome challenges as they learn how to understand their condition and become successful.
