This year, the Publicity Club of New England received a highly competitive set of applications from juniors and seniors studying communications and marketing at New England colleges including Bentley University, Boston University, Merrimack College, Northeastern University, Simmons College, Suffolk University, and University of Massachusetts Amherst.
While the review committee unanimously agreed on the winner, we would be remiss not to recognize the other extraordinary submissions that were clear standouts. As a result, this is the first year that the Cavanagh Student Award has a winner as well as two honorable mentions.
2016 Cavanaugh Award Winner
The Publicity Club of New England is pleased to announce Holly Ledoux as the winner of the 2016 William Cavanaugh Award.
Ledoux is a senior at Simmons College dual majoring in graphic design and public relations/marketing communications. She has been recognized for her high academic achievements through the Simmons Presidential Scholarship, the Lambda Pi Eta honor society of the National Communication Association, as well as the Alpha Delta Sigma Advertising Honor Society. In 2015, Ledoux’s class competed and placed third in the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) regional event, where she co-lead the design team and managed much of the client redesign and advertising campaign pieces.
Outside of school, Ledoux has held five positions in design, social media, PR, and marketing. As the Digital Media Intern at 360 Public Relations, she has created multimedia content for brand social channels, conducted in-depth research using social listening and analytics tools, contributed to agency brainstorms, and reported and analyzed campaign results. As an active member of her community, she been involved in Strong Women, Strong Girls for the last four years: beginning as a mentor, then social media coordinator, and finally co-director where she was able to nearly double the chapter in size. Upon her graduation this May, Ledoux will be relocating to the greater Wilmington/Philadelphia area.
As winner of the Cavanaugh Student Award, Ledoux will receive a $1000 cash award and will be acknowledged at this year’s Bell Ringer Awards ceremony on June 9th at the House of Blues in Boston. Ledoux will also receive a one year membership to the Publicity Club of New England starting in September 2016.
This year’s inaugural honorable mentions are Zander Wharton and Megan Doherty.
Wharton, a senior at Suffolk University studying public relations, previously interned with SiriusDecisions and is currently on the account team at March Communications where he has received glowing reviews. The PR and marketing plan that Wharton created as part of his Cavanaugh application clearly exhibited his strengths in organization, writing, and strategic problem solving.
Doherty, a senior PR major at Boston University’s College of Communications, found her passion for PR while interning at Rasky Baerlein Strategic Communications. She has used that experience in addition to her strong leadership skills to become the Director for PRLab Boston University, the oldest student-run public relations agency in the nation. In this role, Doherty oversees several account teams with clients spanning across multiple industries.
Congratulations to Holly Ledoux on winning the award and to Zander Wharton and Megan Doherty on earning our first honorable mentions!
