Get to Know Your Board Members: Derek Edmond, VP of Digital

Where do you work and what is your title?

KoMarketing / Managing Partner.

What is your Twitter handle?

Briefly summarize your background.

I’ve actually worked in the search engine marketing space for nearly 15 years, working with organizations in a range of industries. Throughout my career in search, it’s been essential to learn significant aspects of social media, content marketing, and online PR, in an effort to generate more significant results for clients.

Today, my role with our organization is focused on leading strategic growth and development for KoMarketing, emphasizing marketing strategy, client relations, and team development, among other responsibilities.

What kind of industry/clients do you work with?

We work in a range of industries but our primary focuses include technology / software, manufacturing / industrial, and business services. Nearly all of our clients have some sort of technology component to their marketing strategy however.

Describe what you do for Pub Club.

As VP of Digital, my role focuses primarily on the optimization and management of website initiatives. That said, since my experience has included a range of skills, I enjoy collaborating in all facets of social media, content development, and the overall development of web experience on the site and across online assets.

Name your top three favorite things about PR.

In many respects I take an “outsider perspective” in PR since our agency often works in coordination with PR professionals and not in the same list of responsibilities. There are instances where we see overlap however.

One of the many important PR elements I find critical for search marketers to understand is in the significance of building relationships. Search marketers historically focus on links and connections between web pages. PR teaches us that it’s the people behind the publications and organizations that need to be focused on first, before looking for more tactical connections (like links and social shares perhaps).

What is your top getaway destination?

I don’t know that I have a “top” getaway destination as there are too many places I still want to see!

If you could take a client to any restaurant in Boston where would you go?

There are so many great restaurants near where we work (Fort Point District), and in Boston overall, that it makes it hard to choose here as well.

That said, some of our favorites include Trade, Blue Dragon, and Ocean Prime. If we’re talking out of state clients however, Legal Seafood or almost anywhere in the North End can work too.
